Treasurer Sarah Marshall gave a brief report.
Julie McAninch and Kelly Radford, both Banking Center Managers
with Bank of America presented the program about online banking.
They began their presentation by stating that more than a
million people pay their bills online through bankofamerica.com.
Several ICON members inquired about the security of online
banking. Ms. McAnninch said that Bank of America has a 100%
security guarantee; she knows of no fraud problems with their
online banking. Information is encrypted before it leaves
your computer using SSL technology. The complete security
guarantee is available on their web site. She also reminded
us that each time we hand somebody a check, we are giving
information about ourselves and our bank account; those checks
pass through a lot of hands. Additionally, our social security
numbers, dates of birth, and other personal information are
often written on the checks. Finally, she said we should never
allow Windows to save our password(s) to an online account,
thereby giving anyone with access to the computer, access
to the account.
Ms. McAninch used the web site to demonstrate other banking
services available online, such as paying Bank of America
credit cards and loans and viewing past statements. To view
the information presented, go to http://www.bankofamerica.com
and click on "Learn More" on the left menu.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sarah Marshall (for our out-of-town secretary, Bill Patrick)
