Q. How do I keep websites from putting a bunch of unwanted cookies on my machine?

A. Cookies are a matter of Internet privacy so right click on the Internet Explorer icon, select Properties, click on the Privacy tab and click on the advanced button, not the advanced tab. Here you will be able to override the automatic settings for handling cookies. You need to make choices for First-Party Cookies and Third-Party Cookies. For each you may chose: Accept, Block or Prompt. I chose to be prompted for First-Party cookies and to block Third-Party cookies.

To override cookie handling for individual websites, click on the Edit button and you can specify which websites are always or never allowed to give you cookies. You can also add sites by typing in the name or remove them by clicking on the name to select it and then clicking on Remove.

Q. When I'm typing, I can't insert text because what I've already typed is erased as I type the new words.

A. On your keyboard there is a key labeled Ins (abbreviation for Insert). This key toggles between inserting text and replacing text. Pressing this Insert key when your words are being replaced will allow you to insert text. Pressing the Insert key when your words are being inserted will put your keyboard back in the replace mode if you want to type over something.

Q. How can I keep website and email addresses from turning blue and becoming links when I'm typing?

A. You can turn this feature off in MS Word by clicking on Tools, AutoCorrect and then the AutoFormat tab. Uncheck the box beside Replace Internet and Network paths with hyperlink. To turn the feature back on, just follow the same directions and recheck the box; this will allow you or the recipient to simply click on the address and go to the website when they're connected to the Internet.

*If left or right mouse click is not designated, left click.
