If mimicry or plagiarism is truly the most sincere form of
flattery, then I feel very honored. There are others in Springfield
who appear to be copying some of ICON's efforts to better
serve our members. I truly hope it works well for them and
for us.
I want to encourage all of you to take advantage of as many
of ICON's programs as you possibly can. These programs have
been put in place to benefit you, and if the organization
is not serving your needs, please tell any of the officers
so we can try to devise a way to rectify the situation. We
work very hard to offer a broad range of help for as many
of you as possible.
Some of the benefits of ICON membership are listed below.
Monthly membership meeting - Provides
a forum for sharing ideas and information and getting answers
to members questions.
Monthly newsletter - Provides information
about upcoming events, tips & tricks, software reviews,
helpful articles, and a help line. (who to call for help on
specific topics)
Six monthly Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
- Provide forums for help with, and discussion about, specific
areas of interest. Current active SIGs are:
- Windows - covers anything concerning Microsoft's operating
system
- Surf the Net - all aspects of the Internet and e-mail
- Desktop Publishing - answers questions on greeting cards,
brochures, newsletters, etc.
- Genealogy - various resources for researching family history
- Digital Imaging - digital cameras, scanners, printing,
photo editing
- Word Processing - questions and answers about any word
processing software along with tips for Microsoft Word
ICON's web site - here you will find
information about the organization, a complete calendar of
events, and a Google search feature. More features are planned,
such as a database of links to helpful web sites related to
SIGs, featured monthly programs, etc. and a live online forum
where members can post their questions to others in the group
who can answer back in a timely fashion.
