Q. How do I make a folder and put files into it?
|
|
A. Three ways to make a folder:
- Click on File--New--Folder and name the folder.
- Right click in an open space on the desktop or
open window--New--Folder and name the folder
- Look for an icon at the top of the window that
looks like a manila folder with "sparks"
at the upper right corner--that is a shortcut for
making a new folder. Click on the icon and name your
folder.
If you do not get the folder named, the default is
New Folder and if there is more than one called New
Folder, there will be a number in parenthesis--New
Folder (2). Right click on the name and select Rename
to change the name.
Three ways to put files or folders into a folder:
- Click and Drag.
Open My Documents (or wherever
the files are that you want to put in the folder)>>select
the files (highlight them by holding down a Shift
key and clicking on them if they're next to each other
or Ctrl key and clicking if they're not next to each
other);
>>Then put the mouse pointer anywhere in the
highlighted area, hold down the right mouse button
and drag them to the folder. When the folder changes
color, you will be in the correct position to let
up on the right mouse button. Select Move here and
they should soon be flying from one place to the other.
- Copy and Paste.
Select the same way as above, and then click Edit--Copy.
Go to the folder and double click on it to open it;
click on Edit--Paste.
- Save As.
Open the file if it is a text
file: or view it if it is a
graphic, click on File--Save As... Locate the folder
in the Save In: line, confirm that it has the Filename:
and File type: you want and click on Save.

*If left or right mouse click is not designated, left
click.
