MICROSOFT TRACKBALL EXPLORER

by Mary Phillips

I love it! I have friends who use a trackball, but I'd never tried one. The major advantage for me is that I need a space only about 4 x 7 inches on my desk and I can do everything with one hand. I do use a wrist support, but the shape of the trackball fits my hand so well, there's never any stress. My thumb can click either the left or right mouse buttons and roll the scroll wheel all of which are located on the left side in the picture at right. The index and middle fingers rest on the optical sensor ball that can make even the tiniest adjustments; and the ring and little finger can click the back and forward Internet buttons on the right side. The four buttons and the scroll wheel can be reprogrammed to do different commands. The software used is MS IntelliPoint 4.1 that includes the cute little mouse cursor. Everything about this trackball is SMO-O-O-TH, even the titanium finish.

System requirements include: Windows 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 Pro or XP operating system; Pentium 133 MHz processor or higher, except that XP requires at least a Pentium 233 MHz. Memory requirement ranges from 32 MB of RAM to 128 MB. 25 MB of hard-drive space is needed. Trackball Explorer has a USB rectangular connector and a round PS/2 adapter so it can be connected either way. The trackball works on both PCs and Macintosh computers.
