Q. In Outlook Express, how can I tell the email address
of the person writing?
|
|
A. Right clicking on the name of the sender will open
a dropdown menu. Select Properties and the General tab.
This will give the email address. By the way, if someone
writes an email address in the body of a message, double
clicking on it will open a new email window

Q. I decided to uninstall a program and reinstall
it. However, when I insert the CD I cannot get the Setup,
as they want it. It says to use X:\Setup or whatever
drive your computer uses. When I type X:\Setup it won't
accept it. Neither does it accept C:\Setup. Now what
do I do???
|
|
A. The X: means whatever drive the CD is in. Most CD
ROM drives are either D: or E:. On the desktop, double
click on My Computer or click on Start-My Computer and
look for CD Drive (drive letter) or a CD program name
(drive letter) if a CD is in the drive.

Q. How do I get HouseCall
to check my computer for a virus?
|
|
A. Connect to the web, and go to http://www.trendmicro.com.
There is a red text header that says Virus Protection,
and under that is Free Online Scan. Click on Free Online
Scan and you'll be in a section titled HouseCall. The
top item is Scan Your PC and there's an underlined link
(the mouse pointer changes to a hand when it's over
a link) that says, "Scan Now. It's Free!"
Click on the link, select location United States and
click Go. You'll get a Security Warning window that
asks if you want to install and run a program that is
the virus scan program (http://a840
/housecall/xscan53.cab).
Click on the Yes button. The file will download. There's
a box on the right side of the window that has >Scan
Now; click on it. A window with My Computer opens. Click
in the boxes beside the C: drive and any other hard
drives you have, check in the box beside Auto Clean,
and click on the Scan button. Have a cup of tea or eat
a light lunch while it scans or you can take the multiple
choice quiz.

Q. How can I go back
and forth between two programs without having to minimize
and maximize each one repeatedly?
|
|
A. Hold down the Alt key and press Tab (Alt + Tab)
on the keyboard to switch back and forth between the
screens.
|
Q. How can I see two
files at once?
|
|
A. To see portions of two MS Word files at once, open
both files, then click on Window -Arrange all. Your
screen will be split in two with a portion of each file
showing. Clicking in the document text area lets you
scroll in the file. You can also view two different
programs the same way if one is Word.

Q. How do I save a file
in MS Word? When I try to save a letter I get: "Changes
have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dot.
Do you want to save these changes?" No matter what
reply I give, I get, "Normal.dot is being used by
another Word session. If you save this document with the
original name, you will overwrite any changes made in
the other session. Do you want to save the document using
the original name anyway?"
|
| A. When you go to
File--Save As: and the Save As: window opens, be sure
the Save as type: selection is Word document. It sounds
like the selection is Normal.dot (template for the page
that opens every time you open MS Word) and it's asking
of you want to change the template to your letter. Be
sure you've typed in a new name for the letter or document
and click on Save. |
*If left or right mouse click is not designated, left
click.
