FROM THE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

by Terry Roberts

Well, here we are, two years later. Together, we've accomplished some great things during my tenure as ICON's president, and I am very proud of my association with the organization. I take my responsibility to the organization and its members very seriously. I hope I haven't let you down!

Many of the things I set out to accomplish have come to fruition, some are still in progress, and some have yet to be started. I tried to attend as many of ICON'S functions as possible in order to make myself available to you, and to learn how ICON could better help you reach your computing goals. Giving this much of my time has been challenging and rewarding, but wearing, so it is time to make some changes.

By now, you all know that I will not be serving as your president during the coming year. I will, however, continue to serve ICON as your program chairman. Mary Phillips will take the reins as president, and I am proud to pass this mantel to her. Mary's dedication to the spirit of ICON assures me that she will lead us capably into the future, and we will continue to be a positive force in our community while serving the needs of ICON members. I certainly hope that all of you will support her efforts as staunchly as you have supported mine.

As I pointed out, some of the projects I started have yet to be accomplished. As your program chairman, I will continue working on these and other projects. Nancy Preffitt has served us well in this capacity, so I will have it easier taking over our monthly programs than she had two years ago when I handed the job over to her. Many thanks for your hard work, Nancy!

ICON'S web site, one of my pet projects, has reached another milestone. We now have in place, the means to keep you informed of current, and future, topics of discussion, programs, and classes. SIG leaders, instructors, and program coordinators now have the ability to enter information about upcoming events. By checking ICON'S web site, you will be able to see what the program topic will be at the next, or future, event(s). We also have in place, a database of Internet links related to the SIGs, programs, and classes offered by ICON, as well as links to information of general interest, such as Tech News, Local Organizations, and some Fun Stuff as well!

Check out some of the SIG pages by clicking the SIGs of your choice in the blue navigation bar at the left side of any of ICON's web pages. Notice the "Related" and "Recommended" links included on the page. These are links the SIG leader thought would be helpful to you when you are trying to learn more about the topic. While you are at the web site, be sure to click "Links" in the same blue navigation bar at the left side of the web page and browse through some of the categories of links available to you from our site. Our webmaster, Sarah Marshall deserves much praise, and many thanks, for her hard work putting these features in place.

ICON'S future is bright!

Happy Computing
Terry
