A. One step you can take is to block messages from
a specific sender. With the message selected, click
on Message and then click on Block Sender. This adds
the sender's email address to the Blocked Sender List
and messages from that email address are automatically
sent to your Deleted folder when they are received.
Most ads have an Unsubscribe option, however I'm not
sure whether that really removes your address from their
list or just verifies your address and transfers it
to 100 other lists. I sometimes wonder if some programs
simply generate other names randomly.
Another step you can take if you're getting a bunch
of spam to enlarge your body parts, gamble, or take
out a mortgage, is to set up conditions and actions
for a message rule.
- Setting up conditions: Follow
the path: Message > Create Rule from Message. Uncheck
"Where the From line contains people" by
clicking on the checkmark, then click in the box beside
"Where the message body contains specific words."
- Setting up Actions: Click
in the box beside "Delete it." unless your
web service gives you an option to report spam and
then you could check "Forward it to people."
- In the Rule Description
box, click on the blue underlined words "contains
specific words."
Type in as many spelling variations for as you can
think of, such as: mortgage, mor tgage, mort gage,
mort.gage, etc. and after each one click on the Add
button. A default name will be applied to the rule
or you can change it if you like. Click OK. If you're
forwarding the message to someone, click on the blue
underlined word "people" and click OK.
Rules can be edited to add words or remove words and
rules can be deleted by clicking on Tools > Message
Rules. Clicking on a rule name shows the rule in the
Description box and there are buttons to make a New
rule, Modify (change) a rule, Copy a rule, Remove a
rule, and Apply a rule now. Click OK when you're finished.
I tried installing McAfee's SpamKiller, but evidently
there is a conflict with the Block Sender feature in
Outlook Express in Windows and a message said another
program was using Outlook Express so I just uninstalled
SpamKiller.

A. . Click on the top message of the section you want
to delete, hold down the Shift key, and click on the
last message of the section. This will select everything
in between the top and last messages. Then press the
Delete key and they should all be deleted. If you want
to keep some of the messages, you'll have to hold down
the Ctrl key and click on each one.
