Wow! What a treat! Tonya Lux, Corel's new user group representative,
gave us one exciting demonstration CorelDRAW Graphics Suite
12 and a brief overview of Knockout 2 on July 17 at the MidAmerica
Cancer Center. Tonya made it interesting even if one hadn't
been interested in working with graphics before. CorelDRAW
Graphics Suite 12 is a desktop publishing suite that includes
five main components:
" CorelDRAW 12 - For illustration and page layout. Tonya
showed how to make a banner ad for a web page.
" Corel PHOTO-PAINT - Digital imaging software,
" Corel R.A.V.E. - Real Animated Vector Effects,
" Corel TRACE 12 - Bitmap-to-vector tracing utility,
and
" Corel CAPTURE 12 - A screen capture utility.
This integrated suite includes a PDF distiller for creating
Portable Document Format files and also can export files in
formats for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, new Microsoft
Office, and others that make this a highly versatile program.
KnockOut 2 is a plug-in program (gives the main program more
capabilities) for preserving fine details like wispy hair
or smoke, shadows, etc. in Adobe Photoshop, Corel PHOTO-PAINT
or Corel Painter.
Several promotions are being offered including a rebate for
the price of a Wacom drawing tablet with the purchase of particular
software, and upgrading from either an earlier version of
CorelDRAW or a competitor's program to CorelDRAW Suite 12
includes a free copy of Corel KPT (Kai Power Tools) collection
of filters for Corel and Adobe products. The website listed
on the handout took me to a reseller's website and I didn't
find the same offers. I went to www.Corel.com and found additional
promotions. The phone number listed on the handout is 1.800.800.5555.
See you at the next meeting,
Mary Phillips,
President
