For the past several months it has been difficult for me to devote as much time (or thought) to ICON’S programs as I would like, but I am trying to get back on top of things. Our annual elections were held during the April general meeting and I feel compelled to say that I am, once again, disappointed that more of our members did not get involved in steering ICON’S future. Many of you have indicated to me that you do have opinions about what we should offer and where we should go in the future, but you are unwilling to act on them. Apathy caused the death of the only true democratic society in the history of mankind…I sincerely hope that you will not allow it to kill our organization.

Also at our April meeting, we revisited several issues related to e-mail and Internet security before ICON member, Mick Topping, gave us a demonstration of “Google Maps,” another new feature of Google’s ever growing offering.

Our June 18th program will feature Scott Turk, senior computer specialist / instructor, from Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC), who will share with us some of the opportunities available to us through OTC’s continuing education program (particularly in the area of computers and related technologies). Also during June, we will celebrate ICON’S 15th year of service to its members and the community. Don’t miss this important milestone event!
