A. Open My Computer, right click on the device-- DVD drive, CD-RW, or other drive that uses removable media such as DVD’s, CD-R’s, CD-RW’s, memory cards for cameras, or jump drives, and select Properties. Click on the AutoPlay tab. The default radio button selection is: Prompt me each time to choose an action. However, near the top of the Properties window, there is a down arrow for a drop-down list of different types of multimedia: Music files, Pictures, Video files, Mixed content, Music CD, DVD movie, or Blank CD. For each of these types of content you can select an AutoPlay option. On this chart are the options provided by MS Windows. Click on the radio button beside Select an action to perform, then click on the option you want to happen when the media is inserted. Click on Apply to make other choices and click on OK when you’re finished. More options will be available if you have programs installed such as Roxio Easy Media Creator, Power DVD, Napster, or Kodak EasyShare. Your removable storage device must be connected to your computer or hub.

There is a button below the radio buttons to Restore Defaults. BUT if that doesn’t work after repeated tries, Microsoft has a new utility available called Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard. There are a couple of ways to get the program:
- Type in the following address: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C680A7B6-E8FA-45C4-A171-1B389CFACDAD&displaylang=en
- do a Google search for Microsoft AutoPlay Repair Wizard and go to the first link, or
- type in the address: tinyurl.com/5s4x7. Download the program and run it on your computer.
Incidentally, the last couple of downloads I’ve made from the Microsoft website, they check to see that I’m running a legal copy of Windows.
