| Q.
How can I run a Windows 95 program on my Windows XP computer? |
|
A. Windows XP has a Compatibility Mode to let us run older programs on our machines.
- Follow the path: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Program Compatibility Wizard. The wizard helps you select and test compatibility settings that may fix problems.
- Choose from a list of programs the Wizard finds on your computer, the program in the CD ROM drive, or locate the program manually. When the program has been selected, then click on the Windows operating system for which the program was written.
- Either type in the path to the shortcut or.exe file or browse to locate it.
- Select the display settings such as 256 colors or 640 x 480 screen resolution. The Wizard has you test the program to determine if it works properly with the compatibility settings, and if you say, “Yes”, the settings will be run automatically each time you run the program.
There is also an online list of programs that Microsoft has tested with the Compatibility Wizard. Follow the path: Start > Help and Support > Find compatible hardware and software for Windows XP. The Windows Marketplace Tested Products List has a category for Software and one for Hardware which you can search alphabetically by Name or Manufacturer.
