| Q.
How do I number pages sequentially and include a title in a header in MS Word, but not start the numbering and text until after the table of contents in an eighteen-page document? |
|
A. There are three tasks involved in what you are trying to accomplish. The first is the insertion of a section break at the bottom of the table of contents page, the second is the insertion of page numbers, and the third is the insertion of the title in the header.
- Click Insert > Break > Page Break > Next Page. A narrow double line including
the words “Section Break (Next Page)” will appear.
- Click Insert > Page Numbers > Position: Top of page (Header) > Alignment: Right > Show number on first page > Format. Select the number format (style) you wish and click on the Start at: radio button and type 1, then click OK.
- Click View > Header and Footer. Type in the title text you want inserted at the top of each page and click on View > Print Layout to close the Header and Footer.
I’ve included the illustrations because it’s a bit easier to understand if you can see what’s supposed to happen. :-)

| Q.
How do I get my Windows XP computer to start in Safe Mode? |
A.
As soon as the computer boots, start pressing the F8 key repeatedly and you should get a menu that includes at least Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and Start Windows Normally. You may have other options as well, depending on your operating system.
