Following is a news release for The March of Technology. We’ll need everyone’s help to make this great idea successful for Springfield and the surrounding area.
Interactive Computer Owners Network (ICON) and The Springfield Greene County Library proudly announce:
The March of Technology
Computer Fair
When: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, March 18 th 2006
Where: The Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell, Springfield MO
Admission: Free
We will be showcasing:
- The benefits of user group membership
- Educational opportunities available from other local sources
- Products available from local vendors
- Maximizing the usefulness of a PC
- Safeguarding important data
Features planned for this event:
- A “March of Technology” timeline exhibit (and demonstrations) of the evolution of computing technology.
- A computer health clinic where visitors can bring in their computer for our “PC doctors” to diagnose and treat computer ailments (primarily malware and viruses).
- Workshops throughout the day on various important topics of broad interest such as Operating Systems, Wireless Networking and Security, Backup Solutions, Technology’s Next Generation, etc.
- Several “Tech Support” stations where visitors can get help with specific questions or problems they are having (These will serve as follow ups to the workshops, and offer help with other topics as well).
- A computer recycling drop off, with information about the importance of proper disposal of e-waste.
- Booths where local technology vendors, local user groups, and providers of computer related education will answer questions and distribute information about their product offerings.
- A representative from the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) will deliver a morning keynote address and wrap-up at the end of the day.
- The main presentation will be provided by Microsoft.
Light snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the course of the day.
