PROGRAM NEWS AND REVIEWS

by Terry Roberts

I work really hard at arranging programs that I think will be interesting, informative, and fun for as many of our members as possible. I truly enjoy the job...it is challenging, rewarding, and sometimes…downright frustrating! The following story relates some of the ups and downs that go with the territory.

All in a Day’s (or is that “All ina Year’s”) Work

Four years ago, when I served as program chairman for the first time, I had an idea for a presentation entitled “Desktop Ergonomics”. I thought it would be a good idea to have a guest who could show us how to minimize the risk of health problems associated with sitting and working at our computers (carpel tunnel syndrome, lower back strain, etc.). I never got the program arranged before I was elected president.

I never forgot the idea, and when I became program chairman again, I started looking for an opportunity to ask a guest speaker to share it with us. About a year ago, I excitedly announced that we would have just such a program. Much to my chagrin and disappointment however, it was canceled at the last minute. Undaunted, I held on to the idea and have finally gotten a local health professional to agree to present the program to us.

Mr. Scott Simpson, PT, of Springfield Physical Therapy Center, LLC will be our guest for ICON’S December 17 th meeting at Brentwood Library. I’m confident that everything will go as planned and that I won’t regret asking SPTC to share with us...but I have to admit that I’m still holding my breath for fear that something will go awry.

ICON’S annual Christmas dinner will be held at Ryan’s Family Steak House, 2501 S. Campbell Ave immediately following the meeting. Cost per person will be $8.99 + tax and 15% gratuity. That should work out to approximately $10.93 total / each person. As in the past, each person, couple, or family group will be responsible for their own bill, however, ICON will not collect any money for this event.

I promise…the food will be delicious; we’ll have some fun and nice door prizes too. DON’T MISS IT!!! Let Bill Patrick know right away if you plan to attend.

See you there,

Terry

Happy Computing,
Terry
