Congratulations to the new officers for the 2006-2007 year: Elsa Hazell, Disk Librarian; Faye Patrick, Newsletter Editor; Richard Preffitt, Education Chair; Joyce Haubein, Membership Chair; Terry Roberts, Program Chair; Sarah Marshall, Treasurer; Bill Patrick, Secretary; Nancy Preffitt, Vice President; and Mary Phillips, President.
One committee I will be appointing soon is for Constitution/By-Laws revision; the last changes were made in 1996 and they need to be brought up to date. If this is something in which you’re interested, please e-mail me.
Another goal is go get more helpers assisting with the Beginner and Internet Classes at St. John’s; teachers are Bill Patrick and Betty Spence. It’s surprising how much you can learn by helping in the classes, so e-mail Bill and ask to sit in on a class to see what goes on.
We’re working on how to record our presentations and make them available in the Education library and/or the website so they can be reviewed as needed. The Education Committee needs another person or persons who can help Richard by bringing the library of tutorial CDs, DVDs, and VCR tapes to some of the meetings, making copies of tutorials so masters won’t get damaged or lost, download programs over broadband as needed, etc. Please e-mail Richard if you can help.
Part of the benefit of being an organized user group associated with the Association of Personal Computer User Groups (APCUG) is the support we get from software companies. If there is a Microsoft or Adobe program that you would like to try and you can write a one-page review within 45 days for the publisher AND for ICON’S newsletter, Bill Patrick can order a complimentary copy for you. If you really like the program, you might consider doing a demo at one of our meetings as well.
It is also our desire to provide education for our intermediate and advanced computer users as well as beginners. Please give us your suggestions.
