PROGRAM PREPARATIONS

Don't miss ICON'S annual picnic at Silver Springs Park on September 16. For those of you who are new to ICON or just never attended our picnic before…ICON provides hamburgers and hotdogs along with all the condiments, potato salad, baked beans, drinks, and all the tableware. Everyone else brings a salad, side dish, or dessert. We always have plenty to eat and a lot of fun! Special entertainment will be provided by ICON member Donna DeJong, who will play the musical saw after lunch. Cost is 25 cents per person, and you can purchase your tickets from Bill Patrick at any ICON function before the picnic. Be sure to hang on to your ticket; you might win a door prize!

Did you know that all of those programs designed to maintain your checkbook register and other financial records are really just fancy spreadsheets? If you would like to learn how to design and customize your own spreadsheet to manage your financial data, be sure you attend Mick Topping's class "Spreadsheet Basics" Introduction to Microsoft Excel and Open Office Calc. (basic formulas, graphics, and formatting), 9 a.m. 'til 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, at The Library Center (Harrison Room). Registration is required. Call The Library Center (874-8110) to reserve your seat.

Also during September, we have an ICON first! Our Vice President, Nancy Preffitt, along with longtime member Margaret Schatz , will teach a class at The EDGE Community Technology Center. If you have mastered navigating through Windows menus and the taskbar and understand basic Control Panel settings but still struggle with organizing your files, or you just don't know how to use the Windows folder structure, this 2-hour class is for you! Registration is required. Call 837-5011 to reserve your seat.

Our program for October will feature the free, hands-on computer classes offered by The Springfield-Greene County Library District at The EDGE Community Technology Center. The EDGE is located in the basement of Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, 397 E. Central St., and provides free Beginning- and Intermediate-level classes on a variety of computer-related topics. The director of The EDGE, Jazy Mihalik, will be our guest speaker. Don't miss it!

See you there,

Terry
