Minutes August 19, 2006

This meeting was held at The Library Center, 4653 South Campbell, in The Auditorium, starting 1:00 pm.

With ICON’S President Mary Phillips welcoming everyone in attendance, visitors and ICON's newest members were recognized, greeted with a hearty hand of applause. Mary announced that we had just had a monthly officers' meeting, where the by-laws committee just approved the draft of the revised copy of ICON’S By-laws, which should be presented to all ICON members soon, by notification in ICON'S September 2006 newsletter, the full revised proposal is available on ICON'S web site. The newly revised by-laws are scheduled for a membership vote October 21st.

Nancy Preffitt and Margaret Schatz will be instructing a class at The Edge computer lab; more details will be available soon.

Mary mentioned that ICON is to offer for sale a slightly used e-machine; details will be posted on ICON’S Web Site soon. Also mentioned was ICON’S annual Picnic at Silver Springs Park on September 16 th.

ICON Officers have been discussing replacing our projector (viewer) which is five years old with the bulb soon to be replaced with a cost near $500.00, the present bulb was replaced in January 2004.

Mary asked for a vote by members present to authorize the purchase of a new projector not to exceed $1500.00. Jerry Balzer made this motion second by Richard Preffitt to allow a committee start checking out and for making this purchase within these guide lines. The committee consists of Harold Hunton, Terry Roberts, Ed Piland, Pat Gavisk and Bill Patrick. Motion carried.

Anther motion was presented to purchase a new updated laptop compatible with Microsoft's newest operating system, not to exceed $1500.00 Pat Gavisk made the motion seconded by Faye Patrick. Committee members are Harold Hunton, Jim Stewart, Mick Topping and Sarah Marshall. Motion Carried.

The Program presenter George Schmoele, Springfield Technology was introduced by Terry Roberts. George held our attention for over 1 1/2 hours talking about Linux System for Windows Users then held a question/answer period.

There being no other business to come before this regular membership meeting, it was adjourned at 3:45 PM.
