This meeting was held at the Brentwood Library, starting at 1:00 p.m.
ICON’S President, Mary Phillips, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone present and recognizing visitors. Mary reported that ICON’S Education Chairman, Richard Preffitt, had resigned and Ed Williams had been appointed to fill this unexpired term. Other officers were asked to give reports, starting with the Treasurer’s report. Sarah Marshall reported that to date we had over 140 renewals and a number of new members. Newsletter Editor Faye Patrick reminded us that Sunday, October 22nd, was the deadline for submitting articles for the November edition.
Mary Phillips introduced Harold Hunton, who served as Chairperson of the Constitution and Bylaws Revision Committee, which had met several times to cover proposed changes. Harold reported that seven ICON members had been appointed to this Committee, five of whom had attended every session : Mary Phillips, Harold Hunton, Terry Roberts, Penny Kubitschek and Bill Patrick. These members were in agreement of the revisions and recommended they be approved. A motion was made by member Don Hern and seconded by Simone Lewis to use the written ballots that had been made available. Mary asked members to vote by a show of hands of those who wanted to vote by a show of hands, and those wanting to use the written ballots. A count of hands indicated that the written ballots would be used. Tellers Willa Trask and Maxine Copeland were asked to count the ballots. The ballots were counted : 28 for the revisions with 3 dissenting votes. The proposed Constitution and Bylaws were approved.
Terry Roberts talked about upcoming events : November18th, see what High-Tech Holiday Gifts are available. In December, learn about Recycling E-tech Products, and then have our Christmas and Holiday party at Ryan’s on South Campbell.
Terry then introduced The Edge presentation, which was very interesting. The Edge was established with a grant in 2002 with 12 computers at the Midtown Carnegie Library. The Edge has been in existence for four and a half years and is very popular, with a waiting list of people wishing to be taught to how to how to use computers.
This meeting adjourned at 3 :30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Patrick, Secretary
