Photos: Pictures That Lie
A picture is worth a thousand words unless, of course, it is a fake one. "Pictures That Lie," a cool segment by Cnet, exposes examples of media photographs that have been doctored, altered, or otherwise manipulated before being publicly released. Scroll through the gallery of images and you will find shocking examples of doctored photos. Highlights include an image from Reuters of Beirut, where the smoke from bombs had been “darkened and increased,” a photo of Katie Couric that had “slimmed her down,” and touch-ups by Newsweek, National Geographic, and other popular magazines.

Legends of America
The only area I looked at on this fascinating site was Route 66, which is really interesting. Lots of things I didn’t know about my adopted home.

Magic!
Joyce Haubein sent me this recently. How it’s done is beyond me. But try it, you’ll be fascinated at how technology that allows us to play solitaire can do so much.

Old School Games
The video games of today boast incredible graphics, complex story lines, and amazing interactive features. But do you ever long for the simplicity of the "old school" games of your early computing? The DOS Games Archive is a bit of gaming nostalgia, with over 230 free games you can download and play immediately. Enjoy such classics as "Duke Nukem," "Mega Man," and "Epic Pinball." My grandkids were both very fond of Jazz Jackrabbit a few years ago. Wonder if it will run on the faster computers?
