Minutes, April 21, 2007

ICON's April 21, 2007 membership meeting was held at the Library Center on South Campbell Ave in the Auditorium at 1:00 p.m. with all ICON officers present.

President Mary Phillips opened this meeting at 1:00 pm by welcoming everyone present and asking visitors to give their names. She asked if all members had turned in their ballots. Seven didn't have their ballots and were furnished with identifying numbers which differed from the ballots mailed out.

The president appointed three election judges : Harold Hunton, Ray Carlson and Elsa Hazell. They picked up the ballot box which contained the ballots to start work on counting them. They set up a table in the busy foyer in the entrance hall near the auditorium.

Mary continued with officers giving their reports. V. Pres. Nancy Preffitt talked about the vests used for the March of Technology held on Saturday, March 24, the theme being "Unwired and on the Move".

Terry talked in detail about this event of new displays and the vendors who had displays and all the excitement which happened. For more details and pictures, read Terry's article and The Prez Sez article elsewhere in the newsletter.

The treasurer's report was given by Shirley Emerson.

A report about ICON's CD library was given by Librarian, Ed Williams.

Joyce Haubein reported that she and her committee have kept busy sending out renewal reminders and lining up refreshments for each meeting.

Editor Faye Patrick reminded all the authors of articles to please send in their articles for the May issue of the newsletter.

Nancy, serving as Advertising chairman under the Membership Committee, was asked by the president to give her report.

Program Chairman, Terry Roberts, introduced our speaker, Pete Manglaviti, and the program Microsoft Office 2007, which was very interesting with a question and answer period after the program.

Everyone kept their eye on the door waiting to hear the election results. Many of the members left because it was taking so long to count the ballots. When the election judges came back into the auditorium, Ray Carlson announced the results, reporting a close vote for Secretary of 68 for Bill Patrick and 67 for Mary Phillips.

After a lengthy discussion by the members regarding the possible need for a new election, Harold stated that someone had to challenge the election before a motion could be made to have a new election. Mary Phillips announced that she wanted to challenge the election. Jim Stewart made a motion, seconded by Barbara Rueben, that another election be held for Secretary only. The motion carried.

Another motion was made and carried to appoint an election committee in order that neither candidate would have to be involved with the election process. President Mary Phillips appointed Mary Stewart, Penny Kubitschek and Ronda Winterhalter to serve on this committee.

The meeting adjourned at a very late hour with only a few of the members still present.
