Q. What's a Recycle Bin?

A. The Recycle Bin is a Windows folder to which deleted files and folders are temporarily transferred until they are permanently deleted. When the Recycle Bin is emptied, then the files/folders are permanently deleted. As long as a file/folder is present in the Recycle Bin, it can be opened, restored or returned to its original location. The Recycle Bin is an icon on the desktop. If you have Norton Antivirus on your computer, the label under the ICON will be Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

Position the mouse pointer on the Recycle Bin and double-click the left mouse button to open the folder and see the files/folders. Left-clicking selects a filename, then double-clicking provides the file/folder Properties window that shows the date the file/folder was created and the date it was deleted. The Properties window also has a Restore button. Right-clicking gives a menu to let you Restore (to its original location), Cut (for Pasting), or Delete (permanently). Hovering the mouse pointer over a filename gives the original location to which the file/folder came from and would be restored.

If you happen to have more icons than your desktop can display and you can’t see the Recycle Bin, one icon may be hidden under another. Right-click in an open space on the desktop and select Arrange Icons by – Name and look for the shortcut.

Q. What does the Desktop Cleanup Wizard do?
A. The Desktop Cleanup Wizard moves unused icons to an Unused Icons folder so they aren’t cluttering the screen. The wizard can be set up to do this on a regular basis or do it whenever you wish. To get to the wizard, right-click on an open space on the desktop and select Properties. Click on the Desktop tab. Near the bottom of the Desktop Items window on the General tab is the Desktop Cleanup section. Click on the Clean Desktop Now button; click Next. Uncheck icons you wish to keep on the desktop and click Finish.

Q. How can I make text larger in Quicken registers?

A. The default size of the fonts in the Quicken registers is 8-point MS Sans Serif, which is very small. To change and/or resize the font – with Quicken open, follow the path Edit—Preferences—Quicken Program. Click on Register, and then click on the Fonts button in the Register appearance section. Select the font and the size you want in your registers and click the OK button. When you click on a font name, a sample of the font is shown in the lower part of the window.
