WORLD CLOCK
Charles Smart sent me this site a while back, and it's pretty neat. You can set the clock to "now" and watch how many people develop diseases (yuck!), how many automobiles are made, how much oil is pumped, how quickly the earth's temperature is changing, etc. It's a more intellectual time-waster than I usually list! http://www.chippynews.com/worldclock.htm
OBSOLETE SKILLS
I spent waaay too much time on this one. I had no idea that so many things I know how to do are obsolete! It lists all sorts of things from using a rotary dial telephone to percolating coffee, and a remarkable number of them are computer related. If you are/were a car nut, this will bring back memories of the routine maintenance we had to do on the old cars. The writing is quite funny on some of them, too. http://obsoleteskills.com/Skills/Skills
OPEN SOURCE PROGRAMS
If you're interested in trying some of the open source programs that seem to abound on the Internet these days, you can learn more here. It's a list of the 50 top programs which replace the pricey commercial software. We've all heard of OpenOffice, but there are many more listed here. http://whdb.com/2008/the-top-50-proprietary-programs-that-drive-you-crazy-and-their-open-source-alternatives/
SKETCH SWAP
This is a real time-waster, but fun. You draw a picture, send it on, and in seconds you have someone else's picture sent to you. This is a cute site IF you have time to play -- amazing what comes back
to you! http://www.sketchswap.com
COMPUTER MUSIC
Listen while you work. This site is one that you can click on, choose your type of music, and listen while you do something else, or you can be much more selective by registering. I'm listening to some really nice old jazz as I write this. http://www.slacker.com
WHAT'S YOUR ACCENT
This is a quiz you take, and then it will tell you what sort of accent you have. Well, it told me I have a Philadelphia accent, and I've never been there!
