FROM THE SECRETARY'S DESK

Minutes, April 19, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Terry Roberts at 1:00 p.m. at the Library Center (Auditorium) on South Campbell. Today was a special day, as we had the election for next year’s officers and committee chairpersons. There was only one
candidate for each office, so it was a simple process. There was a good turnout for the occasion. After the ballots were printed and sent out, we discovered that Ed Williams didn’t want to continue as Education Chair. Otherwise, the election went very well with no changes in leadership.

In July, a new SIG will begin, called Advance Technology Forum. This program will replace the Genealogy SIG, which has shown decreased interest over the past year. The Ozark Genealogy Society has a section in the public library for those interested in pursuing that interest.

Vice President Marion Garrett reminded us that the attention span of most adults is approximately 25 minutes, after which we "zone out." He suggested that we either shorten our programs or provide recesses. One member said he wishes we could have the programs scheduled a little later in the day, so he could attend more.

Terry announced that ICON intends to add cell phones and other technologies to our fields of interest.

Mary Phillips created Get Well cards for our members who are ill, so everyone present could sign them, making the cards more special.

We really missed Bill and Faye at our meeting. We surely hope Bill will be on the mend and have his strength back soon.

Respectfully submitted,
Shirley Emerson, Acting Secretary
