Our President opened the meeting at approximately 1:00 PM with a description of the schedule of SIGS offered up each month. He explained that each of us could profit by attending some of these classes, as we would certainly learn something each time and the instructors would be encouraged to offer more. After brief business meeting,
Terry introduced our guest speaker, Jim Robbins of SMN Computing on North Kansas Expressway. Jim walked us through the process of installing a Netgear router on our computer. He explained the benefits of a router as twofold. Security is the main
ingredient, as hackers will only see the router, if properly installed. It also will allow you to print from several computers to one printer. He stressed the importance of changing the password immediately upon installation and keeping a record of that new password in a safe place that you can remember.
On the bottom of the router was suggested as a good hiding place. He offered phone help for free, if one has a problem with the installation. He was frequently interrupted by questions from the members. Several door prizes were handed out after the
meeting.
Several of the members and their guests then drove to Ryan’s on South Campbell for a holiday treat. We had a nice time visiting and enjoying a good meal. Terry and Sarah had a few gifts prepared for drawing, plus the table decorations (Thanks to Fran Miller!). Everyone seemed to have a good time and hopefully learned something to enhance their computing skills.
